The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow............
Tom and I are sitting in bed each with our own laptop running, listening to the rain pouing down outside and recovering from the long weekend. We had a great time with the family out at the cabin. However, the big excitement for us was speaking with T, a potential surrogate. We had agreed last week, after a string of emails that it was time to speak on the phone and decided on Saturday evening. The entire day I kept saying, don't let us forget to call T, don't let us forget. You see we lose all sense of time out there as no one is wearing a watch or keeping track of time.
At about six-thirty I went into the house to make the call to T. I fumbled with the number a few times forgetting the area code, forgetting to dial one before the area code. I had to admit that I was a bit nervous. On paper, she was perfect. We clicked over email, what would happen on the phone? Tom felt good about her and we were ready to move to the next step.
T picked up the phone and the first thing she told me was that she was terribly nervous. We had a good laugh about that and then moved into further introductions, an exchange of self-defined stupid questions and a few jokes here and there. Overall it was a very comfortable introduction. Tom picked up the phone and chatted with T for a bit also hanging up and feeling good about our first interaction.
From here we will each develop a list of questions for each other and move slowly to the next step in the process. We are still in touch with the other potential surrogates, one in Idaho and one in California. At this point we are going to take each day one at a time and see where we end up. We'll keep you posted.
Check out this season of Six Feet Under on HBO. Our friend Julie says it's our life on some level. We haven't seen it yet so let us know.
